Hey Parents!

Compass

We all want the same things for our sons; fun outdoor activities with other boys, opportunities to enjoy the community with other families, and a chance to help him grow in the best ways possible.

Scouting offers these things for boys ages 11-17. Piedmont Troop 374 has planned an exciting year for its Scouts and their families.  Piedmont Troop 374 is a “boy lead troop” meaning, Scouts, have designed a full year of fun activities for the coming school year and the summer of 2008.

Scouting is not for the weak at heart. Piedmont Troop 374 is an “ADVENTURE in LEADERSHIP” troop participating in leadership skills and outdoor activities that other troops only wish they could do.

There’s no conflict between Scouting and Sports either.  Piedmont Troop 374 has scouts who play Football, Soccer, Baseball, Basketball, Band and other activities.

Our promise to you is that Piedmont Troop 374 will provide a fun, year-round program that your son can enjoy with other Scouts while learning “LIFE SKILLS”.

Like most busy parents you are probably wondering two things: How much will it cost and what‘s expected of me?

HOW MUCH WILL IT COST?

When your son joins there is an initial cost of $20.80 covering your son’s registration fee and insurance, & Boy’s Life Magazine.  Scout Uniform approx. $40, Patrol dues $60 per year to help cover maintenance of equipment, Campout Fees are generally $20 per month but may be higher depending upon activities. Summer camp cost between $125 and $180 depending on location. Scouts have an opportunity to earn their own way to Summer Camp by participating in Piedmont Troop 374 Fund Raising activities.

Our Troop funds an entire Year of Scouting with several fund raising efforts.  Each scout is encouraged to participate in these efforts to help cover activity & program costs for the year.

Here are a few of the things that are paid for through your Scout’s fundraising efforts:

       Summer Camp

       Troop Activities

       Troop Trailer maintenance

       Patrol Gear maintenance

      Troop Equipment maintenance

      Awards, badges, and patches

WHAT’S EXPECTED OF ME

Piedmont Troop 374 makes a promise to our Scouts to Deliver an outdoor adventure while provide opportunities for boys to build self-confidence, develop positive character traits and practice citizenship while making lifelong positive memories of Scouting. We need your help to make this the best year of Scouting ever.  We do understand your time is valuable.

In planning our Ideal Year of Scouting, many volunteer opportunities have been identified for parents to help make this year a success.  We ask that each parent commits to attending at least one campout throughout the year.

These campouts are very important for the success of your scout. Your commitment to attend at least one of these events allows you to share in the outdoor experience with your scout and make some life long memories.  Don’t worry, the adult leadership will help you be comfortable in the outdoors and make sure no lions or tigers or bears eat you at night! You will participate in the adult patrol just as your scout participates in his patrol. Sharing duties with the rest of the patrol members and taking direction from the Patrol leader. These campouts help the parent understand how the troop operates and how a boy lead troop is run.

Can I DO MORE?

By all means, join us!  To make our Ideal Year of Scouting a reality, we need adults who can volunteer more than just a few times a year.

We are all busy and asking parents to volunteer their time is asking a lot.  But the rewards are tremendous…for the boys and yourself!  Assuming every adult is doing their part by volunteering to help with just one activity/event, adults who want to commit more time will be freed up to help our sons grow on a weekly basis. The Boys Scouts of America and the Scouting program in our community could not function without adult volunteers.  Our success depends on you!
